DAY 0 - The Why
Good afternoon to whoever this may concern which, let's be honest, doesn't concern many.
I endeavor to embark on an expedition. A terribly debilitating one but one I must go on nonetheless.
You see, I am a writer. Not a very good one, but I am told when you put ink to paper (or keys to text) you are a writer regardless of how well or how often you do it. So what does this writer intend to do, you might ask.
For awhile now, I have flirted with the idea of studying international relations, specifically focusing on U.S. relations with the E.U. and NATO. And among those member countries, I have a special interest in France and what she intends to do and how that affects the United States and vice versa.
The most natural course of action is to start applying for the best masters programs in the country and ride off into the sunset of my global diplomacy dreams. But alas that horse is a purebred and the price is top dollar. Like packing for a trip, I only have so much room in my backpack and there are only so many dollars in the bank and hours in a day. So while I look at the purebred stallion longingly, my wallet is empty and I don't have much time for galivanting especially with a full time job and bills to pay.
But I still want to galivant. Enjoy the adventure of international affairs but on a smaller scale, a safer distance. A chance to decide if I trust my hand enough to go all in, or if I want to play decently well but still have the option to fold if I don't want to play anymore.
Some might think this is rather indecisive of me to hold off on a Masters. But no, I have narrowed my focus down to the most important kernels of truth, the key things that interest and excite me:
writing, learning, and international affairs.
I can write on a blog.
I can learn online.
And international affairs is always in the news.
So that's how I got here, on a blogsite most of gen Alpha have no knowledge of.
(In fact, it probably has the same connotation MySpace had in my mind as a kid.)
But that's what makes it the perfect place for this Imposter Scholar and her little study laboratory.
So tune in!
Or tune out, I have no fancy credentials to back me up but I do have one thing: the knowledge that we are all imposters forced to act more important than we actually are. So let's have a little fun with it.
Sincerely
I.S.
